Working with the gorgeous Gretty Rose to create her dream gown was such a fabulous journey. Gretty is such a special human, so sweet and lovely and she had some beautiful ideas of what her dream dress might be so over a little glass of bubbles and some delish treats we sat down and sketched up her dream wedding gown!
The perfect dress is just a consult away. We went over some inspiration, likes and dislikes, what we would like to emphasise (Hello Teeny Waist!) and perused divine laces to discover her favourite in a corded Chantilly lace. The final result.... A stunning slim cut gown with exquisite lace detail. Beautiful modest cut v-front bodice skims the body flaring out to a fit-to-flair style fishtail. Focusing on cinching in the waist and stunning open low back that flows into svelt fit at the hips. Flowing from a fit to flair cut into a dreamy modest train. We had the idea to feature a tulle overskirt belt to add that high drama, but decided a little later to keep just the gorgeous gown and make the train a little longer and a little more drama!

Queensland Based Designer Represents Australia Aboard Luxury Cruise Ship in Sydney Harbour. Begitta Stolk, Fashion Designer and Director of the illustrious label Begitta, was incredibly excited about hopping aboard the magnificent Italian cruise ship, The Costa Luminosa with her brand new collection. One of our very own Queensland based emerging designers was selected to represent Australia with her new collection The Forgotten Garden for the world renowned J Spring Fashion Show. A fashion show like no other, featuring designers from all over the world and set in Sydney’s picturesque harbour which took place on 14th March 2016.
This year, under the creative direction of Jessica Minh Anh, The Forgotten Garden was showcased alongside international designers at what has been described as one of the world’s most iconic catwalks. The prestigious J Spring Fashion Show is well known for its daring locations and merging of art and fashion. Previous shows have been held on the Eiffel Tower, One World Trade Center and London’s Tower Bridge, just to name a few! In front of Australia’s elite in fashion and media, the incredible catwalk was staged on the Costa Luminosa’s grand upper deck overlooking the breathtaking, iconic backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The glorious Sydney sun beamed down on the exquisite models showcasing six international designers with Begitta opening the show to present her awe inspiring new collection. The Forgotten Garden transported the audience to the garden beyond the hidden gate. A place forgotten through time that has seen little of the world but instead has created its own from within, made even more show stopping by the picturesque grand scale of this world class fashion show, catapulting this emerging designer to international fame. Inspired by Begitta’s travels to Monet’s Garden in Giverny just outside of Paris. The Forgotten Garden takes the sculpture of flowers and their texture and emulates the rhythm and flow of an exquisite lush garden. Each piece of the collection is unique to Begitta’s story and yet tied together by signature hand-detailing and fabrics in tulle, silks, prints and beautiful French laces. With a colour story ranging from white to creams through blush, pinks and purples and divine floral prints. Featuring hand-draping, lace applique, subtle sparkles and adornments of handmade flowers. The collection is a high note on the breeze and a nod to Begitta’s love of otherworldly places and fairytale romances. Begitta has gone from strength to strength throughout her short career. She has presented her new and most elaborate collection to date which inspired, captured and wowed at the J Spring Fashion Show 2016. The Forgotten Garden was a true highlight against the beautiful Australian landscape and architecture unique to the J Spring Fashion Show 2016 event. Wow, What a night! Blooms, champagne and incredible sites were promised and the amazing venue, collaborators and delish catering certainly delivered! UNVEILED – A Luxury Wedding & Fashion Showcase, held on January 31st 2016 at the heavenly CLOUDLAND was beyond beautiful. As guests arrived the sun beamed in through the exquisite retractable roof of Cloudland's Rainbow Room, located on the top floor of this whimsical, chic and oh-so beautiful venue. With incredible styling created by Nicole Ritchie Collections and the fantastic team at Beautiful Weddings Australia there could be no doubt that the surroundings would be lush. And we weren’t disappointed! Their exquisite greenery wall flanked by exquisite floral walls created the incredible awe inspiring catwalk. The luscious fresh green floor runner along the catwalk was painstakingly put together by Bella Bloom Floral Designs using oodles of greenery and the countless hydrangeas . With staging by Staging Creations that looked like the ocean in reflecting the gorgeous gowns of the new collection, The Forgotten Garden Collection by Begitta –Bridal & Couture, with each individual piece hand crafted by Begitta’s fabulous team right here in Australia. The Forgotten Garden is inspired by the Begitta’s travels to Monet’s Garden in Giverny just outside of Paris, France. The Forgotten Garden takes the sculpture of flowers and their texture and emulates the rhythm and flow of an exquisite lush garden and exports to the garden beyond the hidden gate. The Forgotten Garden Collection is place forgotten through time that has seen little of the world but instead has created its own from within. Our wonderful MC, Glenn of G&M DJ’s had the crowd whirring with excitement, setting the scene with his fab tunes and his incredible presence on the microphone. Each guest was greeted with goody bag full of delights from our sponsors, a divine custom watercolour program created by Love Notes and a glass of Sirromet Winery’s finest sparkling wine with customized UNVEILED Logo which absolutely blew us away! Meeting and greeting our divine vendors was an absolute treat, seeing the beautiful smile of Amanda from We Are Twine, showcasing her stunning images of loved up brides and grooms to the saccharine sweet smells emanating from the incredible display table of Julie Whitehead Cakes and Chocolates. We had a seat at the delightful Malin’s setup for Willow Branch Photography to view the incredible work she creates, capturing couples and families through her camera lense and there was absolutely no lack of sparkle to gaze at as we found ourselves mesmerized by the beautiful jewels presented by Redki Jewellery. Come 7pm we were on the edge of our seats to get ready for the gorgeous models to swan down the runway with hair and makeup by the ultra-talented Kylies Professional Team. Ready to see the new collection by Begitta – Bridal & Couture aptly named “The Forgotten Garden” which showcased a beautiful array of bespoke gowns ranging in dreamy colours from whites and creams through to blush, lavender, fuchsia and rouge. Not to be outdone by The Forgotten Garden Collection, our custom made Media Wall with sparkling backdrop provided by Beautiful Weddings Australia was a real show stopper and the exquisite and absolutely mind boggling Fresh Floral Wings created by the ever inspiring Bella Bloom Floral Designs with amazing foam wing cutout base created by Foamtastic Party Decor. Thankfully we had our wonderful photographer Beth Mitchell Photography (who created the most insane “Trash The Dress” shoots) to document some of the evening through her lens and the incredible team of Wrapped Up Media to capture the event on film, with their team of three they captured so many beautiful angles of the whole event. Make sure you check out their incredible video below.

Marina Mirage on the Gold Coast is now home to Begitta Bridal and Couture's first ever pop-up store!
September 18 was the Grand Opening Soiree, a fabulous evening to welcome guests and clients to come in and see, touch and feel the magic. At 6:45pm, a much awaited reveal of the store windows took place to the delight of guests waiting outside the boutique. The ripping off of brown paper revealed a window of flowers hanging from the ceiling, surrounding the beautiful "Odette" Gown seen at the recent Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival. In the other window stood some more lifelike models, Emma, Jasmin and Cat wearing pieces from the new "The Dreamery" collection, with beautiful hair and makeup done by Kylie's Professional. The soundtrack of the night was the sound of beautiful violinists, Yeaji and Grace, playing exquisite music well into the evening. Cupcakes were the taste on everyone's lips as guests indulged on white chocolate mudcake and vegan chocolate cupcakes, courtesy of Cake Ninja. Guests sipped beautiful champagne and sparkling waters as they perused the latest collection, as well as popular gowns from previous years. The room was complemented by the aroma of fresh flowers, put together beautifully for the press wall by Flowers by Julia Rose. The night was a smashing success and an excellent start to the 5 months Begitta Boutique will spend at Marina Mirage! Thank you to Vogue Images for capturing the night! There are varied views on being an intern. Some say "free labour, gross," others jump at the chance to take the first or second step into their chosen career path, regardless of pay. I can safely say that I am the latter, and it's not at all hard when you're working for the sweetest Bridal and Couture designer you could fathom.
Myself and one other "Begitta's Angels", Molly, were brought on board to help sew, stitch, and keep Begitta sane in the lead up to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Before we knew it, fittings with models had come and gone and it was time for the big show. Tuesday 8am: All systems go at the studio, Begitta is still putting together some gowns after last minute epiphanies and changes, and everyone within the close vicinity are roped into lending a hand, including Begitta's housemates. I get given the task of stitching on some hand-dyed lace applique to the finale gown bodice. Shouldn't take too long, right? 9am: Still stitching. 10am: Still stitching. In other news, Cinderella is now on the screen to keep me company. 10:30am: This bodice is now complete and ready to go! Everyone is now onto their second or third cup of coffee to keep the momentum going. 11am: Another bodice is ready to have beads and lace stitched on, at this point if I'm ever in a life or death situation and need to stitch on some applique, it's probably safe to say I'll be fine. The Disney movie of choice has now been changed to Aladdin. 12pm: Tension is rising as it still feels like the To Do list is too long and I have to deliver the dresses from the Gold Coast to Brisbane by 3:30pm. Some of the 8 gowns are fully prepped and going into their garment bags, ready for the road trip. 1:30pm: Kylie's Professional makeup service arrives at HQ to get Begitta looking fabulous for tonight. You can probably guess that I'm still stitching. But it gets done, it looks fab (to say so myself) and the steaming and/or pressing of skirts begins. Which is just as much fun as it sounds. 3:00pm: By this point I have no clue where all the time went, and it's time to play Tetris with my baby little Nissan Micra. To put it in perspective, we have 8 relatively poofy garment bag - containing delicate garments, 9 shoeboxes, a bag of very expensive jewellery, 4 headpieces, 4 hoop-skirts, and two storage boxes of extra stuff to basically fit into a match box. 3:15pm: Nailed it. 4:15pm: Was blessed with minimal traffic and even though I was late getting to City Hall, Molly is waiting on the side of the road to help me unload. Unfortunately it's now peak hour and poor little me is getting honked by angry commuters. We unload and I drive off to park my car safely out of the way before coming back to setup for tonight's show. 8:30pm: Models are dressed, everything fits, jewellery is sparkling, many many many photos are being taken and it's time to strut the stuff. Thank the Fashion Festival Gods that everything goes to plan and everything looks stunning - no surprise there. 10:00pm Everything is packed away and we are all walking the fine line between "hell yes, let's pop some champagne and celebrate!" and "where's the closest comfortable bit of floor, and can I sleep there?" Piece of cake. - Written from the perspective of Ally The Dreamery Collection is set to take the stage at the fabulous Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival 2014 on August 26th! We are thrilled to release a sneak peek of the inspiration for the collection! |
