Queensland Based Designer Represents Australia Aboard Luxury Cruise Ship in Sydney Harbour.
Begitta Stolk, Fashion Designer and Director of the illustrious label Begitta, was incredibly excited about hopping aboard the magnificent Italian cruise ship, The Costa Luminosa with her brand new collection. One of our very own Queensland based emerging designers was selected to represent Australia with her new collection The Forgotten Garden for the world renowned J Spring Fashion Show. A fashion show like no other, featuring designers from all over the world and set in Sydney’s picturesque harbour which took place on 14th March 2016.
This year, under the creative direction of Jessica Minh Anh, The Forgotten Garden was showcased alongside international designers at what has been described as one of the world’s most iconic catwalks. The prestigious J Spring Fashion Show is well known for its daring locations and merging of art and fashion. Previous shows have been held on the Eiffel Tower, One World Trade Center and London’s Tower Bridge, just to name a few!
In front of Australia’s elite in fashion and media, the incredible catwalk was staged on the Costa Luminosa’s grand upper deck overlooking the breathtaking, iconic backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The glorious Sydney sun beamed down on the exquisite models showcasing six international designers with Begitta opening the show to present her awe inspiring new collection.
The Forgotten Garden transported the audience to the garden beyond the hidden gate. A place forgotten through time that has seen little of the world but instead has created its own from within, made even more show stopping by the picturesque grand scale of this world class fashion show, catapulting this emerging designer to international fame.
Inspired by Begitta’s travels to Monet’s Garden in Giverny just outside of Paris. The Forgotten Garden takes the sculpture of flowers and their texture and emulates the rhythm and flow of an exquisite lush garden. Each piece of the collection is unique to Begitta’s story and yet tied together by signature hand-detailing and fabrics in tulle, silks, prints and beautiful French laces. With a colour story ranging from white to creams through blush, pinks and purples and divine floral prints. Featuring hand-draping, lace applique, subtle sparkles and adornments of handmade flowers. The collection is a high note on the breeze and a nod to Begitta’s love of otherworldly places and fairytale romances.
Begitta has gone from strength to strength throughout her short career. She has presented her new and most elaborate collection to date which inspired, captured and wowed at the J Spring Fashion Show 2016. The Forgotten Garden was a true highlight against the beautiful Australian landscape and architecture unique to the J Spring Fashion Show 2016 event.

Our wonderful MC, Glenn of G&M DJ’s had the crowd whirring with excitement, setting the scene with his fab tunes and his incredible presence on the microphone. Each guest was greeted with goody bag full of delights from our sponsors, a divine custom watercolour program created by Love Notes and a glass of Sirromet Winery’s finest sparkling wine with customized UNVEILED Logo which absolutely blew us away!
Meeting and greeting our divine vendors was an absolute treat, seeing the beautiful smile of Amanda from We Are Twine, showcasing her stunning images of loved up brides and grooms to the saccharine sweet smells emanating from the incredible display table of Julie Whitehead Cakes and Chocolates.
We had a seat at the delightful Malin’s setup for Willow Branch Photography to view the incredible work she creates, capturing couples and families through her camera lense and there was absolutely no lack of sparkle to gaze at as we found ourselves mesmerized by the beautiful jewels presented by Redki Jewellery.
Come 7pm we were on the edge of our seats to get ready for the gorgeous models to swan down the runway with hair and makeup by the ultra-talented Kylies Professional Team. Ready to see the new collection by Begitta – Bridal & Couture aptly named “The Forgotten Garden” which showcased a beautiful array of bespoke gowns ranging in dreamy colours from whites and creams through to blush, lavender, fuchsia and rouge.
Not to be outdone by The Forgotten Garden Collection, our custom made Media Wall with sparkling backdrop provided by Beautiful Weddings Australia was a real show stopper and the exquisite and absolutely mind boggling Fresh Floral Wings created by the ever inspiring Bella Bloom Floral Designs with amazing foam wing cutout base created by Foamtastic Party Decor.
Thankfully we had our wonderful photographer Beth Mitchell Photography (who created the most insane “Trash The Dress” shoots) to document some of the evening through her lens and the incredible team of Wrapped Up Media to capture the event on film, with their team of three they captured so many beautiful angles of the whole event. Make sure you check out their incredible video below.

Amanda from the talented We Are Twine has an amazing way of capturing the inner essence of every moment she photographs. This photo shoot had its challenges being an outdoor shoot on top of a mountain but we wanted to embrace the raw environment and use this as a focal part of the shoot. This helped to enhance the Boho theme of the whole shoot. Cloud formations and a stunning outlook made the perfect back drop. Photography of soft gentle moments were highlighted throughout this shoot. Fabulous vendors working together made this photo shoot such amazing project to work on.
Exquisite embroidered lace creates a svelte fit to flare silhouette of this stunning Begitta -Bridal and Couture bridal gown, additional hand appliqued fleurettes scattered lovingly over bust, waist, the divine full length sleeves and trickling down the train makes this piece stunningly bespoke and one-of-a-kind. Creating additional length and movement with the ethereal style removable belted skirt of silk chiffon, perfect for a touch of drama whilst keeping that relaxed bohemian bride feel!
The stunning earcuffs hand-made with deluxe goose feather detail are an absolute show stopper and create such a unique and striking look for the utterly boho chic bride. Add a cathedral length Mantilla Veil for a truly awe-inspiring entrance!
A hairstyle of soft woven curls creating a boho weaved look with an array of textures and colour, creating a sensual romantic but relaxed hairstyle. Headpeices of feathers used to enhance the boho theme.
A make up look inspired by the latest trends of using rose gold as part of the colour pallette for a spring wedding, a smokey brown and rose gold shimmer on the eye with volumous lashes accentuates the natural blue hues of the models eyes. Peachy tones married with bronze to create the overall earthy boho theme. (Velbella -
It's such a pleasure to step outside the boundaries of normality in the land of Love & Marriage! This project had so much style, colour and exciting new concepts. The gorgeous couple were joined in ceremony amongst the beauty of the Australian bush setting. Words of love, hope and promise were shared under an Aztec Alter that connected the earth to the sky. My path as a Marriage Celebrant was taken to a higher place and my inner bohemian spirit danced in delight!
INVITATIONS AND STATIONERY
The invitations and stationery featured aztec shapes and boho colours inspired from the alter and then hand guilded cooper leaf that tied in beautifully with the flower filled metallic pots and cake whilst adding the extra special element to complete the boho feel.
Using an airbrushed copper palette, this three-tier cake was highlighted with pops of orange, lavender and pink in both the geometric design and the fantasy flowers. Hand-made fondant succulents were the main focus and tied in with the floral arrangements and bouquets. Natural tones from the bride's hair and makeup were the inspiration for the wired feather topper.
This shoot was such a joy to design, it allowed me to step outside of the wedding styling box and be innovative with bold colours and shapes. What really stands this shoot apart from others is how all vendors involved collaborated together to create such a perfectly finished product that I would be so delighted to deliver to a client. Out first job was to clearly find our unique niche that was going to make our future clients swoon and for myself this was the handmade altar. With many ideas shared and the dress made it was now time to get busy and sketch some ideas. My first idea was the Aztec geometric altar. I was able to create warmth with the wood, lots of colour and texture with the matte shapes whilst the metallic copper adds that little bit of sparkle all weddings need. With my power tools at the ready I was able to design and build products that are practical, usable and of course a one off. Specially sourced materials and hand made products adorned the shoot to bring all elements together that showcases a wonderland of talent by all vendors involved. I am so excited to have this new hire suite as part of our range.
We were so lucky to have this photo shoot featured in the wonderful Brisbane Wedding Weekly's online magazine along with a print version of the fabulous Style Magazines Bridal February edition (Page 48)
